More Bad News for Downtown Allentown

In the vicinity of the Fabulous Renaissance Plaza at 9th and Hamilton, we have two more victims of the renaissance. Spooner's Cafe on Hamilton, and the new Crave Lounge have both closed, apparently unable to make a profit from the rebirth-ed downtown of the Pawlowski Administration. How will Pawlowski spin this one? They went the way of the New York Floral, so it is good news for the city, making way for new business in the blossoming metropolis?

Now I need to find a new place for lunch, as these were my favorites.

What is left downtown? No one knows, because everyone has abandoned the place. I predict PPL is the next to go, when their free ride on taxes goes away.

There is a Pawlowski sponsored Arts Organization (is that a contradiction in terms?)trying to start up on the other side of 9th. Of course, not in the Arts Walk area. No arts orgs want to go there. Even the City has given up on the concept after spending boku bucks to create it.

  1. I completely disagree with your assessment that everyone has abandoned the downtown. Yesterday, hundreds of people attended the opening of the Chen Arts Show at the AAM.
We frequent several downtown businesses like Deli Plaza, Bay Leaf, Brew Works, House of Chen. If you have ideas about to use the arts walk then come to a Chen arts meeting, I have invited you, even after you criticized us at our blog. You haven't reponded to me. We are volunteers who are helping to revitalize Allentown, and we are successful. We get things done.
It is encouraging to see SO many people involved in our group. I think you are misinformed. The purpose of our group is to give exposure to our great local artists, and to help revitalize the downtown through the arts. It's happening.

  2. Actually, it has happened before, and where is it now? It only got support from the City when it seemed to benefit the City. I was involved with many groups, including the Open Space Gallery and the Theatre outlet, and took part in meetings ad infinitum. I do not trust the Mayor, or the City, to do the right thing and actually support it. I do support the artists that keep trying to make it work. Good luck to Chen Arts, but I have little faith in the long run success. Too many bad experiences have taught me to not trust.

  3. "Chen Arts ... I have little faith in the long run success."

Dick. You are a dick. Thanks so much for your support. As if we need any from you.
